Big Sister

We all know how fashion conscious Sofi is. She picks out her socks, shoes, the fishy shirt (now known as the "agua" shirt) if it's clean. Well, Sofi recently discovered the drawer full of Baby's clothes. Oh boy! She chose Ofelia's clothes the other morning and was so proud! Doesn't Ofelia look excited too?

Here Sofi laughs after telling Ofelia that stripes and polka dots don't go. Doesn't Ofelia look like she's been tricked?

Outside In

This is to show all my peeps out in Cali how cold it got a few weeks ago here in Denver. Yes Dad, that's ice on the inside of our doorstep. And I think those are Sofi's finger prints on the bottom right.

Sick Sofi

A couple weeks ago Sofi caught a pretty nasty cold. She's just now getting back to normal. These are a couple of pics of Mike, Ofelia and George (Nice dress, George!) trying to make Sofi feel better. Isn't it cute how Ofelia hugs her big sister?!

Beer and Xmas Trees

It's tradition in my family to buy ornaments that remind you of the person you're giving them to. I have tons of Curious George, Mr. Potato Head, Dr. Suess type ones I've been given over the years. So there we were showing Sofi the ornaments as we took them out of the boxes.

Of course Ofelia was doing her own thing while we were decorating.
Then we got to the beer ornament. Apparently, someone in my family saw this little mug of beer and thought of Mike. He received it from someone in my family (I think it was my Nina Laura) a few years back. Sofi wouldn't let go of it! She played with it for quite a while.

Then she just sat with it and thought a bit.
Eventually it got hung on the tree, but she took it off the next morning to play with it again.
About a week after the tree went up, the poor little mug of beer ended up where lots of mugs of beer eventually end up... Sofi knocked it off the counter onto the floor and it shattered.

18 month stats

OK, so this obviously isn't a recent picture of Sofi. She's had a really bad cold these days and I didn't want to take a current one of her to put here. I also wanted to see how many people would tell me how different the two girls looked when they were born. I kinda think they look alike, but on little sleep and with a slight cold myself, who knows. Ok, Sofi's stats:

Height: 31 inches = 25th percentile(wow! 25%?! We're usually at 5%)
Weight: 20 pounds 3.5 oz. = 3rd percentile (more butter!)
Head: 18 and 3/4 inches = 75th percentile (c'mon, are you really surprized?)

Current look: Picture a really, really cute, slightly taller lollipop shaped Sofi. : )

PS Sofi, when you learn to read please understand that your parents have really warped senses of humor. I'm sure we still tease you about the head. -Love Mama

Bonding

Lately Sofi and Ofelia seem to be bonding more and more. I think Sofi has accepted that Ofelia isn't going anywhere and Ofelia is managing to stay awake long enough to notice Sofi (or at least movement from a small person -- who knows how much she actually makes out at this point). The first couple of shots were taken this morning. Sofi motioned that she wanted to hold Ofelia. Once she had her, she pointed to the camera and went "uh" which translated to 'take a picture of us woman!' I like how Sofi looks like she's really excited about Ofelia in some of the pics, and how Ofelia looks like she's amazed with Sofi. Hopefully this bond will help them on the field when they're known as O. Medina and S. Medina in all those National Team games.

The Sianez Clan

My big bro and his family came out to visit us last week. It was a good time, but we found we were chasing our kids around way more than we were visiting. I guess that's how it'll go until the kids get a bit older. Sofi had a great time with her cousins and still asks for Emma... no offense Austin, I think it's a girl thing.

When they got here Sofi was quick to show them her wagon. I think Emma likes it!
After quite a bit of playing and a little bit of pushing, shoving, biting, hitting and hair pulling they all managed to take a bath to relax. Sofi was very much the observer with Austin. I think she was amazed at how fast and coordinated he was.

Ofelia was doing her own thing during all the fun.
Here both girls are amazed at Austin's speed up and down the hallway.

A still shot.

Help Me Obi-Wan, You're My Only Hope...

Sofi's hair after pig tails.

Getting Naked

Last night we were cooking dinner and Mike and I started talking about giving Sofi a bath. Sofi was hanging out playing and then disappeared for a minute. Mike found her in the hallway half naked! Sofi has learned to take off her shoes, socks, pants and diaper all by herself! Aren't we lucky? We were laughing pretty hard at our naked toddler, taking pictures and cooking when we noticed there was pee on the ground. Of course Sofi slipped in it and hit her head on the floor (she's ok) before we could capture the moment on film.

Fight the Power!

Oh the tricks my daughter knows. Sofi and Mike were "raging" to a little 'People of the Sun' the other night and Sofi's newest trick emerged. If you say "power to the people" sofi raises the five sided fistagon. She still looks a little too happy when she does it though. I think we have to practice a mean face --or at least a serious one to go with it. Now that I look at the last pic, we also have to get rid of the karate stance.

2 Week Check Up

At our 2 week check up last week Ofelia came in at the 10% mark for weight (6 pounds 14 ounces) and height (19 and 1/4 inches). Her head hit the 30th percentile... not sure what to think about that. I was expecting something higher with our family's track record. Oh well, maybe Sofi is just an over-achiever.

Little Bully

Apparently all the pushing and shoving Sofi does has helped her to build super toddler strength. Sorry boys, I guess this means you'll only hit the ground harder from now on.

Way up in the trees...

Does anyone else see the resemblance in hair styles?

Problem Solved!!!

So everyone has been asking what we're going to do when Ofelia outgrows the bassinet and Sofi needs a toddler bed... Ha! The wagon! Who needs a house?! We can just roll her to where ever fits that night. Genius, pure genius.

Favorite Shoes

Now that Sofi's ruby red shoes don't fall off of her, she wears them with just about anything. Apparently they go great with her diapers. You can't tell from these pics, but they really bring out the color in Elmo's fur (for those of you who haven't seen Pampers in a while, they have Sesame Street characters on them.).

Diaper Changes

Diaper changes are looking a little different these days. Mike is trying to figure out a way to get both girls in and out assembly line style. I think we might need a bigger changing table for that though.

First Bath

Ok, first of all Ofelia's first bath was sometime last week... I'm a little behind on the blog. Ok, technichally her first bath was at the hospital (see below).

This is her first bath at home with Sofi. It's a tight fit right now with the little baby tub, but barriers between the girls are good these days. Our little bully (the one on the right) has been watching too many UFC ground and pound clips these days.

Sofi was actually pretty happy to have 'baby' (what Sofi calls Ofelia) in the bath with her, but the crying seemed to confuse her.

She even tried to help with the washing process. Sofi isactually very helpful with Ofelia when she wants to be.

More at Home

Sofi did a great job welcoming her sister home.

She showed her how to play with Mr. Star (Sofi's old favorite).

Showed her the big kid toys on the rug.

Let her rest a little.

Hung out with mama on the rocking chair.

Being a big sister is hard work. Sofi is trying to catch naps when she can.

George is working hard too and also enjoys a good nap.
